Anywhere you have a dust collection in your home, you could have dust mites!
Dust mites are tiny insects that feed on human skin flakes. Disgusting! They're usually in mattresses, bed sheets, pillows, carpets and fabric-covered items. But they could also be hiding in all kinds of dust collectors, like books or furniture. Those insects are so small you can't see them with just your naked eyes.
Do they bite? Thankfully, no. But, their body parts and feces could trigger asthma in people with dust mite allergies. Worse, exposure to these nasty insects could cause asthma in children who have not previously had asthma symptoms. That's frightening, don't you think?
According to The Mayo Clinic, even though you can't completely get rid of all of the dust mites in your home, you can get rid of a lot of them. The Mayo Clinic shares these suggestions:
- Build a barrier (cover your mattress and pillows in dust-proof covers)
- Maintain a low humidity in your home
- Choose bedding wisely (use synthetic materials)
- Buy washable stuffed toys
- Wash bedding weekly (in very hot water)
- Vacuum regularly
- Cut clutter
- Rethink flooring
- Remove dust
You noticed that last suggestion, right? REMOVE DUST. That's where we can help.
